| HistoryThe town of Redditch and surrounding area has always been for many generations the world centre for the production of needles and especially fish hooks. Carbon steel wire drawn in Birmingham, a few miles away, was sent to towns like Studely, Alcester and Redditch and made into needles and fish hooks, and in the 20th Century it established itself as the world leader in this market. Industrial decline has, however, taken its toll. Giant names like Allcocks, Seeley and Patridge have closed their factories and fish hook production has moved to the Far East. Now machines instead of manpower make fish hooks. Most of our hooks are handmade from the stock from companies in the Redditch area where quality instead of quantity mattered.
